A suggestion to the Government on the quota issue

With Delhi medical students on the warpath on the quota issue, we of course give them our full support....

But in case they fail, here's a suggestion for the government to follow up on to make this country really egalitarian.....

This is taken from a reaction to a debate that the Economic Times had opened up about the reservation quota....read on...

"I think we should have job reservations in all the fields.I completely support the PM and all the politicians for promoting this.

Let's start thereservation with our cricket team. We should have 30 percent for OBC, SC/ST like that. Cricket rules should be modified accordingly.

The boundarycircle should be reduced for an SC/ST player. The four hit by an OBC player should be considered as a six and a six hit by a OBC player should becounted as 8 runs.

An OBC player scoring 60 runs should be declared as a century.

We should influence ICC and make rules so that the pace bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar should not bowl fast balls to our OBC player. Bowlers should bowlmaximum speed of 80 kilometer per hour to an OBC player. Any delivery above this speed should be made illegal.

Also we should have reservation in Olympics. In the 100 meters race, an OBC player should be given a gold medal if he runs 80 meters.

There can be reservation in Government jobs also. Let's recruit SC/ST and OBC pilots for aircrafts which are carrying the ministers andpoliticians (that can really help the country.. )

Ensure that only SC/ST and OBC doctors do the operations for the ministers and other politicians. (Another way of saving the country..)

Let's be creative and think of ways and means to guide INDIA forward...Let's show the world that INDIA is a GREAT country.

Let's be proud of being an INDIAN..

May the good breed of politicans like ARJUN SINGH long live..."

Even without any reservation,the MERITIOUS INDIAN ATHLETES COULD ONLY MANAGE A SINGLE OLYMPIC MEDAL.

With 69% reservation, TN has one of the lowest infant mortality rate,best health facilities in the country...

the second issue about Tamil nadu...well, i think u are shifting the goalpost, as it were...tamil nadu (as do kerela and karnataka and some others) has those indicators becuase of grassroot social movements that developed in the early part of the last century...when there were no reservations, when the dravidian movement laid the stress on education cutting acroos gender, caste etc.....its was an anti-elite (read anti-brahmin) movement that called for the dalits to be self-reliant and not depend on crutches....

the dravidian movement's basic principles have been betrayed by the TN politicians and the indicators that u c today are the legacies of that movement but teh gains are slowly being eroded...and tell me this, has anybody done a study of oppurtunity cost loss of the 69% reservation? no...

so dont simplify it, see the historical precedents first before forming a judgement, that will be my advice to u....
