Gov the Builder

Read in the telegraph yesterday that the government is planning to build concrete roads in villages affected by Naxalism….so that security forces can move easily and also because its more difficult to mine concrete (pucca) roads than dirt (kuchcha) roads.

It’s a strange irony and almost amusing to see the government officials praising this venture because if we just stop and think, the government is building roads not because it wants to give a better life to its people but because there is a threat to the status quo of the dirt roads!!!! Maybe they would give electricity soon as well, not because its almost a fundamental right but because its easier to see where the rebels are at night.

A government that did not think twice at letting the majority of its people wallow in middle ages awakes not because the plight of the people moves it but because it is afraid of being toppled from that place where it was content to have dirt roads till kingdom come.

A strange democracy if any…..

Though I may not agree with the Naxalite ideology, one must agree that there is at the root, justification at the anger against the establishment.

This ironic spectacle of building roads to move the army better is perhaps something that Naxals had anticipated, maybe not but one thing is for sure, the circus that is Indian democracy never fails to amuse, even when its downright pathetic….
