You Stand in the Doorway - A poem

You stand in the doorway
Your face invisible in the bright opaqueness of the daylight
your outline silhouetted, simmering as made of vapour

you do not speak, nor i
for you see,
the very best and the very worst of our lives are inexpressible
cant be spoken of without losing that intangible terrible beauty

You always said
The brightest light leaves the blackest shadow
But then don’t you understand
The light is the light only because you are there
Extinguishing itself without you

Farewell
Let us not turn back for last looks
You’ll never grow old for me, nor me for you
The beauty of our moments preserved in the mind’s eye
That is perhaps our greatest gift to each other
In this long short life of ours

We wont meet again perhaps
But then we have always been kindred souls
We will find each other in the darkest alleys of the mind,
Illuminating each other as if facing the bright side of the moon.
