Mughals still draw breath.....

I came upon this very interesting article as I was reading up on the Mughals….

We usually lose interest in the Mughals after the exile and death of Bahadur Shah Zafar after the 1857 revolt and the execution of three of his sons by the British. We usually don’t give a thought as to whether there are any surviving members of the Mughal family still living. Probably we believe the Mughals to be a part of history and the supposition that descendants might live on don’t exactly enter our conscious thoughts.

How would we feel if we know that we are the lineage of the Mughals, tracing our ancestors to Genghis Khan and unable and unwilling to say it mainly because people would probably laugh at us – the descendants of the builders of the most prominent architectural monuments in India now living in cramped rented accommodations will not be an encouraging foundation to stake our claim.

This is exactly how the last Mughals feel….

Its an interesting read mainly because the gulf of history is suddenly closed and seeing the faces of the last Mughals makes us feel closer to a living history…..

Read on….
