Goodbye Geetanjali Savarkar

Its seldom that I would write a farewell to a faculty on my blog (believing that good teachers are a fast dying breed and we dont need too many teachers) but today when Geetanjali Savarkar finished with her last day in SIBM, I realized that this is one teacher that I have to bid farewell to properly.

I cannot say that I attended her classes regularly:)...for various reasons - council work being one of the major reasons along with overconfidence!!! but nevertheless, she is perhaps the single biggest reason that I cleared my accounts paper. She need not have taken the classes seriously and could have just done her part in teaching the subject and moving on - like most faculty.

Instead, she did what most teachers seem to have forgotten - take a personal interest in the students and take a interest in their fortunes. When we were getting ruffled, she took pains to assure us. When on the eve of the exam, there was a rumour of an extra-difficult paper, she did not bluff it out and was as worried as us - becoming one of us and yet was ready with a smile when she told us that we should just be confident and "sab theek ho jayega". And well, I guess it worked!!!

Not only in terms of exams, i have never once felt that she could not be approached for help in any regard. When we were doing a B-plan contest and approached her for some financial aspect of the problem, she actually lent her own book immediately.

Geetanjali - i think we all appreciated that you took the pains to say goodbye to all of us and we hope that you enjoyed the cake!!!

We all regret losing a teacher and a person like you from the college but things change and people have to move on. The appreciation of a person comes because of it and inspite of it.

Goodbye Gitanjali...All the best to you, wherever you go...
